Movie Love

Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday in February, although Groundhog Day is a close second. If nothing else, Valentine's Day is the one time of year that I can buy women's underwear without getting weird looks. "Do you have this corset in a size that would fit me?"

As cupid fires off a few rounds this time of year, I always get thinking about how our romantic ways have been shaped. For better or worse, movies are to blame for our thoughts on love. All is possible if the scenario makes it to the silver screen - a rich guy can turn a prostitute into girlfriend, a stalker can steal the girl away from Brett Favre, and you can drive cross country to successfully breakup a wedding.

As the "producer" of your life don't "green light" a remake of a romantic plot line in your love story if you're counting on a happy ending and the ride into the sunset. We don't get to see the reality set in right after the ride into the sunset when bickering starts regarding the bills and your passion for World of Warcraft. I am guilty of few attempts at the movie plot line reenacting in my romantic exploits. I started a fire attempting to set the mood during a candlelit dinner. Four people were injured during a half-baked pottery making lesson, now known in that town as the "The Clay Aching Scandal of 2005". On a positive note, I did successfully transform from an angel to a human after falling in love with a pilates instructor.

Leave love and romance up to the Internet and Dr. Phil and you will be much happier. If you have to choose a movie for inspiration, then pick "The Naked Gun". Leslie Nielsen portraying Sargent Frank Drebin deliverers my favorite love-themed movie quote as he reminisces about his ex-wife, "Everywhere I look something reminds me of her." He then passes two pointed silos off in the distance.
